The archeological materials, the information of great erudites of antiquity, the traces and historical monuments attest marks of human life and habitation - about 2,000,000 years discoveries of Bugiulesti - TETOIU commune)
First record mention of the county appears on January 8, 1392 in the Chronicles of the Monastery of Cozia, where the Charter signed by the Voivode of Wallachia , The Old Mircea, is still preserved. |

The County enjoys a varied geography, ranging from hills and mountains to valleys and plains, making it, in many respects a microcosm of the country as a whole.
Almost half of its territory is covered by woods of oak, beech, coniferous trees or other forest vegetation.
In the northern part, the mountains make the dominant landscape, with heights of more then 2,200 meters;Valcea County boasts rich mineral resources, including crude oil, natural gas, salt, as well as mineral waters renowned for healing properties. |

There are 7 main national roads that cross the county. The most important is the European Road No. 81 , which connects Vâlcea County with Arges and Sibiu Counties .
The county roads amount almost 1538.48 kilometers and include 389 bridges, with a total lenght of 10,135 metres.
Natural gas supplies:
9 localities, with 259.2 km of distribution pipe networks.
Drinking water supplies:
72 localities, of which 8 towns;
Total lengths of the the distribution pipes networks: 546.3 km; a regional drinking water supply from Bradisor source (over 50 km).
